Computer Vision FAQs

When you have a job that requires you to spend several hours in front of a computer screen, it can cause a condition known as computer vision. This syndrome is a collection of irritating symptoms that are becoming more and more common as more jobs require extensive computer time. If you are suffering from the symptoms of computer vision, there are ways to treat it and feel better.

.

If you are experiencing computer vision and live in The Woodlands, Huntsville, Conroe, or the surrounding areas, contact Avery Eye Clinic to schedule an appointment with one of our eye doctors. Let’s look at some of the questions that we run into regarding computer vision.

What Is Computer Vision?

Spending a long time in front of a computer screen forces your eyes to work harder than they would in other situations. The text on a computer screen is backlit, making it harder to read than it is to read text on paper. This harder workout for the eyes is then multiplied by many hours for multiple days. The result is eyes that are fatigued and experience other symptoms.

What Are Symptoms of Computer Vision?

When you have computer vision, you may experience a wide range of symptoms. Tired, strained eyes are common symptoms of the condition. You might also have watery eyes, dry eyes, eyes that turn red, or itchy eyes. You may also have blurry vision or even double vision. You might have a few symptoms outside that do not involve the eyes as well. Computer vision can cause shoulder pain, neck pain, and headaches. However, none of these symptoms are permanent.

What Are Some Computer Vision Treatments?

The cause of computer vision is the long periods that are spent looking at screens, and this may be exacerbated by having bad posture. There are several ways to treat the conditions to get rid of the symptoms. One of these is to make an effort to blink more often when you are at the computer. Being in front of a screen causes you to blink too infrequently and this can dry out your eyes.

Another way to treat it is to reposition your computer and possibly your lighting. If there is a glare on the screen, it will make your eyes work even harder to read the text. Get rid of the glare to help your eyes. You should also take frequent breaks from looking at the screen. Taking a 20-second break every 20 minutes by looking at something 20 feet away can significantly help with this condition.
